Reimbursement Policy 2026

Member Qualifications

  • Your Local 955 membership must be in good standing at the time the course was booked

AND

  • You must have been employed by a contributing employer working a minimum of 350 hours within the twelve months prior to course completion.
  • If you do not have the minimum working hours, are on a permit or are a new or pending member, the reimbursement will be considered after you have reached the 350 working hours with a contributing employer. The working hours must be met within 6 months of the course completion.
  • If you have been expelled or suspended, you do not qualify for training reimbursement.

Course Qualifications

  • Course must be relative to the Operating Engineers.
  • Safety courses that are ESC endorsed may be reimbursed if taken in any Canadian province.
  • Equipment or Apprenticeship courses must be taken in Alberta by a RECOMMENDED provider.
  • If re-certifying, the course must be within 6 months of current expiration date.
  • Basic courses such as PCST, Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, Wildlife Awareness and TDG are offered online and are free to all qualifying members. Online courses may also be available in the Calgary and Fort McMurray halls. Check with our office to see what is offered before going to a third-party provider.

Reimbursement Criteria

  • You must try to book courses offered by Apprenticeship and Education before booking with an alternate provider, or you may NOT be reimbursed.
  • You must get pre-approval for using a third-party provider, or you may not get reimbursed.
  • Courses taken through third party providers will reduce your annual training allowance.
  • If a reimbursement is submitted prior to a "Good Standing" membership status, it will be held for REVIEW until your status changes to GS or you have reached the 350 working hours within the maximum of 6 months from date of completion.
  • If you have been out of work for more than 90 days and reside within 100kms of Edmonton, you must take your training through the hall.
  • The annual maximum per member is $750.00. (excludes qualified apprenticeship tuition)

Supporting Documents (must accompany the Member Reimbursement Form)

  • Invoice and Proof of Payment (credit card slip, electronic receipt, credit card statement, etc.)
  • Successful completion certificate(s).
  • Documents must be submitted within 6 months of course completion. Submission date is the date when ALL required documents are received.
  • Apprenticeships must have a letter from Apprenticeship and Industry Training that includes marks.
  • Incomplete reimbursement requests will be declined.
  • Direct deposit form or void cheque. To ensure accuracy and financial security, we cannot accept handwritten direct deposit information.

Cancellations and no-shows

  • Cancellation policies are set by the individual training providers. If you no-show for a course, your annual allowance will be charged back for the cost of your seat. After 2 no-shows you may not be eligible for training or reimbursement for 12 months.

Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for processing time for all reimbursement requests.

Mobile Crane Apprenticeship Training Grant Policy 2026

The Operating Engineers Local 955 Apprenticeship and Education Program recognizes the importance of supporting members in advancing their skills and progressing in their apprenticeship. Members in good standing who successfully complete their Mobile Crane Apprenticeship Training through an Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) accredited provider are eligible to receive a fixed grant amount. This grant is intended to assist members in their educational development and career advancement.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Mobile Crane Apprenticeship Training Grant, applicants must:

  • Be a member in good standing with Operating Engineers Local 955.
  • Successfully complete Mobile Crane Apprenticeship Training through an AIT-accredited training provider.
  • Submit all required supporting documents listed.
  • Have not previously received a grant for the same level of Mobile Crane training.

Grant Amount

Eligible members will receive a fixed grant of $1,015.00 upon successful completion of approved training.

  • The amount is not dependent on the cost of the course.
  • Only one grant is issued per completed Mobile Crane Apprenticeship Training level.

Required Supporting Documentation

Applicants must submit the following documents to receive the grant:

  • Government-issued completion letter
  • Detailed invoice from the AIT‑accredited training provider
  • Payment receipt showing proof of course payment
  • Direct deposit form or void cheque for payment processing
