Headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, with over 14,000 active members, and district offices in Calgary, Edson and Fort McMurray, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955 is Alberta's largest trade union supporting mobile equipment operators. Our members are instrumental in building and maintaining Alberta's infrastructure within the mining, oil sands, transportation, and construction industries. Our members also support municipalities, school districts, and other organizations that incorporate heavy equipment in their operations.
Supported by more than $100 billion worth of oil sands and other industrial projects, OE 955 supplies more skilled heavy equipment trades people than any other union local in Alberta.
With history that dates back to the 1920’s in Alberta, the Operating Engineers have nearly 100 years of tradition in Alberta, with Local 955 as we know it today formally established in 1948. Local 955 is connected to representatives located throughout North America. As a part of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), established in 1896, we benefit from the knowledge and expertise of over 100 years of success. Our reciprocal agreements within our network of 123 locals, across Canada and the United States, support members that seek employment in different regions without losing union, health and welfare, or pension benefit entitlement.
