Gord was born in Edmonton 49 years ago and is a husband and father. He and his wife have been together for nearly 20 years. In the early years, Gord’s experience ranged from working in the construction industry and operating heavy equipment to working on service rigs in the oil and gas sector.
He then spent 14 years working in health care alongside two years of volunteering with the RCMP as a Victim Services Worker and later as an Auxiliary Constable with the RCMP for four years. In 2011, due to declining opportunities within the health care sector, Gord made a decision with his family to start operating heavy equipment in Alberta. He worked on the pipeline as an oiler and moved forward as a principle operator. He spent his last year at CNRL operating the excavator and dozer at Kearl Lake under the Overburden agreement.
In 2014 Gord had an opportunity to become a Business Agent. He now combines all of his experience in health care, operating, investigations and law enforcement to become a knowledgeable and proud Business Agent for IUOE Local 955. If you aren’t part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.
"If you aren’t part of the solution, then you are part of the problem," says Gord. "This is what I was told many times growing up. Therefore, I would like to be able to utilize all of my experience to be a part of the solution for my Brothers and Sisters of IUOE Local 955."
