Damien Stanley

Damien is a second generation Operating Engineer, Damien was introduced to the Union at a very young age. Damien initiated into Local 901 in 1998, his career began in the pipeline industry. Several years later, he found work in the crane sector, where he attained Red Seals for both mobile and tower cranes.

Throughout his time as an Operating Engineer, Damien has taken an active role in participating with the Union, whether it was Union meetings or rallies. Damien has also held the role of a Job Steward, rank and file bargaining committee member, strike captain, and health and safety committee representative.

As an advocate for training and advancement, Damien completed a Certificate in Professional Management at night through the University of Calgary, while working construction during the day. Damien believes the informal training in the field is complementary of any formal studies.

Having worked in the crane rental, industrial construction, commercial construction, and pipeline sectors; Damien has had the opportunity to travel throughout the Prairie Provinces. Some of the most memorable projects were the Wuskwatim Generating Station, Shepard Energy Centre, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Damien has always taken great pride in sharing the achievements of tradespeople with others. “As a construction worker, it has always fascinated me that we are all connected on one project or another until completion, at which point the public can see and benefit from the fruits of our labour”.
