Las Vegas ‘ConExpo 2017’ Draws Local 955 Members

Posted on April 4, 2017

It was quite the weekend—128,000 attendees, four huge parking lots, five conference halls and 2.5 million square feet of exhibit space.

“It was an incredible experience,” says Stacey Benedictson, Local 955 Member. “I learned a lot about the new crane equipment and got to try out some of the new simulators including virtual reality.”

ConExpo is held every three years in Las Vegas. Although, this was Stacey’s first year, she decided the expo would be worth the personal expense. And she was not disappointed, in fact she was impressed with the sheer volume and variety of equipment that was featured. This included cats, bobcats, miller welding, technology for drilling and even farming equipment.

Participants could sign up for various seminars and luncheons throughout the weekend, and of course they could walk the large grounds at any time. Everything was set up tradeshow style, however demonstrations and competitions were happening regularly.

“Linkbelt had a competition happening where you could get into an excavator and if you could roll the dice out of the bucket and get it to land on snake eyes you’d win a prize,” said Stacey.

The highlight of the event for Stacey was getting the opportunity to climb into a Boom truck style man lift. She was 235 feet in the air and had a beautiful bird’s eye view of the Expo. The truck was originally designed for cleaning large wind mills.
