We have now received a letter from Locals 115, 882 and 959 requesting assistance for their members who have been affected by the B.C wildfires. Approximately 650 members across the three locals have been displaced and are in need of help.
To date more than 40,000 residents of B.C have been displaced due to the wildfires. The Government of British Columbia has spent over $130 million on firefighting efforts but without any end in sight. New fires continue to start throughout the province, with many weeks left in the forest fire season.
On Friday, August 4th, the Table Officers of the Local 955 Executive Board made the unanimous decision to donate $100,000 to our fellow IUOE Locals in B.C to help with their members’ immediate needs. More than any other IUOE local in Canada, we understand how difficult this time is for B.C residents. IUOE Locals across Canada and our International donated money to help support us last year during the Fort McMurray wildfires. This is an opportunity for us to repay their generosity.
